22 hours (detail)charcoal and graphite on paper

2010

Artist Statement
I generate drawings which support and explore biennial themes (these explorations have been culminating in large-in-scope installation exhibitions from 2000 to 2016): experience, movement, change, sound, light, time, space, matter, and finally, memory. For example, in 2009 and 2010, I completed a series of timed drawings in support of my sixth biennial, TIME. I completed a 1-minute drawing, a 2-minute drawing, a 3-minute drawing,…through to a drawing that took 27 consecutive minutes to generate. I next completed a 1-hour drawing, a 2-hour drawing…through to a 27-hour drawing, drawing for a total of 378 hours.
